From tips on choosing resize-friendly metals to our sizing guide, we’ve got everything you need to make your ring as comfortable as it is stunning.

Engagement rings are the last word in love, and honestly, finding the right fit is a big deal. After all, that ring has to be perfect for your finger! So if you are thinking of resizing an engagement ring, you have come to the right place. This guide covers everything you need to know—from when to resize to which metals can (and can’t) be adjusted. Let’s dive in, shall we?

When to Resize an Engagement Ring?

Sometimes engagement rings just aren't going to fit right. And that's when you might need to have it resized:

● The ring is too tight. If it leaves marks or is hard to get off, then it's likely too small.
● The ring feels too loose. If it spins or slides easily over your knuckle, it may slip off, and no one wants that!
● The fit also changes with the temperatures, which tend to swell up during the heat and reduce during the cold, so check on the fit before deciding on the size at some regular temperature level in a room.
● In short, if it doesn't feel right or safe, the resizing is worth a try. You don’t have to endure the wrong fit—because your ring deserves to shine (without any discomfort).
How does resizing work?
● Making it fit smaller: At Rogers & Hollands, our jewelers will remove a small piece of the band and solder it back together to fit your finger just right.
● They expand the band to make it a little wider. If the size needs to be increased sizably, then they append something of metal to the band.
● And don’t worry—the stone’s placement or original design won’t be affected by resizing, especially in the hands of our best-in-class jewelers.

How Much Smaller or Larger Can a Jeweler Make My Ring?

Most rings can go either up or down in two sizes. Any more than that will probably damage the general structure or design. Our staff at Rogers & Hollands can guide you to check if resizing is possible in your given style ring.

Which Metals Can Be Resized?

● Gold (yellow, white, and rose)
● Platinum
● Silver

These are soft enough to be resized, so if your ring was made out of one of these, you are in a good position!

Which Metals Won't Resize?

● Titanium: extremely durable but a chore to work with.
● Tungsten: Striking, but impossible to resize
● Stainless Steel: Pretty darn challenging to resize as well, just because of its hardness.

If your ring is made of any of these materials, you may have to look into other options (we'll get there in a minute).

Are There Other Options Aside from Resizing?

Yes! If resizing isn't feasible, fear not! There are a couple of ways jewelers can use:

● Sizing beads: Add small beads inside the band to make it feel snugger. It's great if you are close to the proper fit but need that little tweak done.
● Ring guards: This is a more temporary solution that can be applied by attaching a small piece to the inside of the band, making it so much smaller without interfering with the metal.
● New band: Replacing the band itself for some materials may just be easier and give you a more comfortable fit, leaving the ring's integrity intact.

How Long Does It Take to Resize an Engagement Ring?

If engagement rings are made of contemporary metal (i.e., tungsten carbide, cobalt, titanium, or stainless steel), the ring cannot be sized by a jeweler because of the hardness of the metal. Typically, the ring will be reordered from the manufacturer in the correct size. Depending on the designing company, this usually takes 2–6 weeks.
It does depend on the type of ring you have and what metal it is made of. Solid or plain symmetrical gold and platinum rings that do not have any gemstones can be stretched by a professional jeweler using the proper device. However, it can only be stretched a small amount.

Can engagement or diamond and gemstone fashion rings be sized? Most often, the answer is yes! The only reason a ring could not be sized is if the stones in a ring are set in vulnerable spots that decrease the safety of the stones. Sizing a ring with this type of risk could end in breaking, chipping, or popping stones out of the setting.

Measuring Your Ring Size at Home

Ensuring your engagement ring fits perfectly is crucial for comfort. You can easily find your ring size at home without any special tools using two simple methods.

● The First Method to Find Your Wedding Ring Size:
Wrap a string, paper, or tape around your finger, then measure the circumference with a ruler. Use the ring size chart below to determine your ring size based on the obtained circumference.
● The Second Method to Find Your Wedding Ring Size:

If you have a well-fitting old ring, place it on a flat surface. Use a ruler to measure the largest part of the ring's inner edges. The measurement in millimeters is the inner diameter of your ring. Refer to the ring size chart to find your accurate ring size.

Use our ring size chart to compare the obtained measurement (circumference or diameter) and find your ring size. This guide simplifies the process, helping you determine the perfect fit for your engagement ring.
