Songs are written about them, wars have been fought over them, the iconic diamond is a luxury that truly lures in passion, love and respect. While every stone captivates with its beauty and meaning, there’s something about the diamond that makes it a girls’ best friend. For those born in the month of April, you’re in luck! Your birthstone, the diamond, is one of the most precious stones in the world. From the stone’s sparkle, durability and rich history, it’s a valuable stone that suits any piece of jewelry or precious metal it meets.

Below, learn all about what makes the diamond such a remarkable stone, and why it should be added to your ultimate birthday gift-list.

Yes! Diamonds Are Really Forever

If you’ve watched James Bond, you know that diamonds are referenced as a gift for a forever type of love. Metaphor aside, diamonds (as a gemstone) really last forever! In fact, they’re marked as the hardest gemstone on the planet. Ranking at a 10 (out of 10) on the MOH Hardness Scale (The Mohs scale of mineral hardness is a qualitative ordinal scale characterizing scratch resistance), diamond surpassed all other gemstones. This is because the atoms within the diamond are packed closely together, creating a high density gemstone. But lasting forever? That seems like an awfully long time, right? While we can’t say a diamond’s lifespan is truly forever - its longevity is close to a billion years (which for us, feels like forever).

Diamonds and Aries: A Perfect Match

It’s only fitting that a stone strong enough to withstand the test of time is paired with one of the fiercest signs of the zodiac - Aries. Taking any challenge head on, with their ample amount of determination and bravery, Aries’ associating gemstone is best suited on the journey with them. Diamond jewelry, when worn, can both help and encourage Aries in their strongest and weakest moments. The transparent and reflective nature of the diamond allows Aries to calm themselves in moments of high stress; the hardness of the stone can foster determination and confidence. Not to mention, the diamond is the most common gemstone for engagement rings. There’s absolutely no better match than proposing to an Aries, in their birth month, with their birthstone.

Diamonds Are the Most Romantic Stone on the Planet

While diamonds surely have a dated past (lasting a billion years on the planet is a long time), their first recorded history on the planet is both an interesting and beautiful story. Back in 4th Century BC, diamonds were discovered in India, their stunning nature was compelling enough to become a wanted commodity in the famous silk trade (connecting the stone from India to China). Jump to Ancient Rome, and the diamond evolved to its more romantic status by being a prized stone to gift to family, friends and loved ones. It wasn’t until the Middle Ages that the diamond was used to symbolize intimate love and marriage. In between a betrothal and marriage, women were signaled as ‘off the market’ by wearing a diamond on their finger - which was usually tied together by a copper wire or string. Flash forward to today, and diamonds have resurfaced as one of the most precious and romantic stones on the planet! Hence, the engagement ring.

Healing Powers of The Diamond

If you’ve ever looked at a diamond, it’s no surprise to learn that this gemstone’s beauty and sparkle brings positive feelings and vibrations. But why? This gemstone’s transparency and clarity are super reflective in the natural world, and can help ward off feelings of mental pain or struggle (giving the wearer an open mind). In addition, wearing this gemstone can bring about determination and fortitude, as its hardness is a spear that cuts through life’s obstacles.

Why Gift A Diamond

If the diamond’s signature properties and healing powers aren’t enough to convince you to give a loved one this precious gemstone - its beauty and dazzle will! Whether for a family member or loved one, diamonds are known for their versatility in showing respect, love, and compassion. You can’t go wrong with giving someone an enchanting gemstone like a diamond.

For the month of April, we want to help you celebrate your (or your loved one’s) special day by putting the diamond on display. Until the end of the month, all diamond jewelry will be 30% off - as our way of saying, Happy Birthday!

Trend Alert: Lab-Grown Diamonds

A recent diamond trend includes lab-grown diamonds. Lab-Grown diamonds are real diamonds that can be an estimated 30% less expensive than mined diamonds, but there are pros and cons to each. You should read our blog about lab-grown vs naturally mined diamonds as we debunk myths and give you the facts about both so you can decide which type of diamond is right for you.

No Matter The Type of Diamond, Make Sure You Maintain It

Diamonds are best worn clean and sparkling! To maintain the clarity and beauty of a diamond, it’s important to regularly clean your diamond in a safe solution every month or so.

Steps to Make Your Jewelry Cleaner:

  1. Mix 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 cup warm water
  2. Add 1/2 teaspoon of ammonia based household cleaner (like a glass cleaner such as Windex)
  3. Soak your jewelry in the solution for about 5 minutes & then gently scrub with a soft-toothbrush
  4. Air dry or carefully towel-dry with paper towel or regular cloth.
  5. Watch it sparkle & fire in the sunshine!

If you’re uncomfortable making your own solution at home, seek out one of our many store locations, to pick up a bottle of at-home cleaning solution.

On top of monthly at-home jewelry cleanings, we recommend getting your diamond cleaned every six months by a professional. Make an appointment with a local jeweler, to truly bring the shine out of your favorite stone!

There’s no denying that April birthdays had luck on their side when the stars aligned and rewarded this month with one of the world’s most precious stones. Take advantage of this precious gift by wearing a diamond to bring both luck and beauty into your daily routine!
